The Snipes championship hopes were all but ended as they allowed their
Yorkshire visitors to take home the points in Saturdays match at the
Fieldings. They could have no complaints as the reshuffled side showed a
lack of cohesion with the long throws of Ash Wakelin posing the only real
threat to the visitors.
Kiverton were denied an early lead when on three minutes Snipes keeper
Richard Fenn produced a superb save to tip over Michael Taylors header
and then Nicholas Bracey saw his powerful drive pass narrowly wide as the
visitors asked all the early questions. The Snipes huffed and puffed but rarely
threatened the visitors goal.
Fenn was the man keeping the Snipes level firstly denying Darren Woodrup
when the diminutive striker was given a clear site of goal and then producing
the save of the season when somehow turning Robert Gormans close range
header over .At the other end the visitors defence denied the Snipes attack
any clear chances until with a minute left before the break Carl Longmore
flicked on yet another long throw and Pete Stubley headed home from eight
yards out to give the Snipes an unlikely interval lead.
The second period saw the Snipes start to gain the territorial advantage
and Longmore was close to increasing the lead on fifty minutes but fired
over when well placed .However the visitors were level three minute later
when following a penetrating run down the left by Simon Toseland Woodrup
was on hand to poke the ball past the exposed Fenn.
Matt Lane was introduced on 55 mins as The Snipes sought to increase the
attacking options and though the visitors were forced back they still retained
a threat with their quick counter attacks. Stubley and Kyle Ludlow both went
close as the Snipes forced a number of corners but it was from one of these
that the visitors took the lead.Ludlows corner was cleared upfield by Jamie Taylor
and with the Snipes short on numbers at the back Gorman siezed on a slip by
Steve Bayliss to race clear round keeper Fenn and fire into the empty net.
Creswell and Senior were brought on but it was not until the final five minutes
that the visitors came under real pressure with Bayliss heading against the bar
from yet another long throw and then Taylor clearing of the line when it looked
as if the equaliser would come and when Longmore volleyed over in the last minute
the Snipes last chance to rescue the game was gone.
